My Personal Journey

A few years back, I was coping with grief and loss, working as a therapist, and parenting young children during the pandemic. Everything became harder, and I wasn't even aware I was in burnout. As a high achiever and perfectionist, I felt the need to work harder, not realizing the cost—my physical and mental health, and energy were suffering.

When I became aware and decided to do the inner work to get out of burnout, I found ways to support myself and feel more connected to my purpose allowing greater integration of my spiritual self. Things started to shift.

Serving from my heart’s wisdom and compassion; knowing my ‘Why’ allowed me to tap into a more expansive and long-lasting state of energy to do the things that I love. The positive feedback loop of energy alignment brings so much joy, peace, and growth despite my busy schedule.

Knowing I wasn't alone and refusing to let this become the reason fellow therapists leave the field, I decided to share my journey and framework so that you will be able to find your joy and a renewed sense of soul’s purpose, maintaining your well-being while doing this challenging yet rewarding gig of being a therapist!

About Your Host, Poh Gan

Originally from Malaysia, I moved to Perth, WA in 2004 and have been living here since. I’ve practiced as an educational and developmental psychologist for 16 years and am a Board-Approved Supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia. Outside of work, I have been a Mahayana Buddhist practitioner and meditator for 20 years. I am human through and through, with my insecurities and vulnerabilities, being a BIPOC neurodivergent therapist.

Combining my clinical experience, Buddhist spiritual practices, and lived experience, I offer a unique lens integrating Eastern and Western wisdom to break the cycle of burnout from the inside out. I'm excited to share with you profound yet simple mindset shifts, tools, and strategies that have helped me manage my energy as a therapist, saying goodbye to burnout and compassion fatigue, and truly cultivating effective self-care. This way, you can maintain greater energy from within to help others without depleting yourself.
